XX by The XX

What a fusion of sounds this band is. A little Radiohead, a little Imogen Heap and the sound of the surf guitar thrown in. With haunting guitar riffs and beautiful vocals, this is one of my favorite albums right now. And I think they are getting ready to blow up with a spot at the acclaimed South by Southwest Festival in March. Check them out so that you can say that you knew about them before anyone else.

3 Rounds and a Sound by Blind Pilot

Currently, I am obsessed with this album. It has a very simple, laid back feel to it that makes you want to sit back and relax with a cup of tea and a good book or wander about a field at sunset. The songs are infectious, having had "Go on, Say it" stuck in my head for days now. This band from Oregan definately is my kind of music, I will be looking for more promising music from them in the future.

A touch of the sickness

Been down for the count with a nasty case of the flu. Only able to drudge through my regular job before the hitting the sack but have been listening to some really awesome tunes. Looking forward to sharing those with you. Expect to see a downpour of posts in the future once I kick this bugs ASS!!!!

The Point! by Harry Nilsson

When I was a little girl, we went to Disney World every year. Now as you can imagine, driving ten hours in a car with two young girls was extremely difficult. To make the time go by faster, my father (a huge fan of the audiobook) would play books on tape for us or classic radio programs. However, much to my father's dismay, my mother would always play one of her favorite albums during the trip. I can remember my mom, sister and me singing along to all the songs. Even to this day, The Point! is a road trip tradition.

Harry Nilsson is one of my top five dead collaborators (I have a dream list of collaborators both dead and alive). Whenever I listen to any of his music, I am never disappointed by the quality of his voice, with it's impressive five octave vocal rang or the genius of his songs. I think that he might be one of the most romantic songwriters I have ever heard. It is a tragedy that we lost him at all but all great things must come to an end. What suprises me is the amount of people who have no idea who he is but if you were to play them any number of his songs, they would know it or at least recognize it.

I have learned more from Harry Nilsson than almost any other artist I have ever listened to. I think that it is definately worth a listen. If you don't take my word for it, the trust The Beatles because at a press conference in 1968, someone asked John who his favorite American artist was, he stated, "Nilsson" and when Paul was asked his favorite American group, Paul replied, "Nilsson".

Album by Girls

So maybe I am a little behind on the times, I don't know but I recently "discovered" the band Girls and have fallen in love with this album. Their lyrics are incredibly smart, witty and fun. Perfect jumping around your house in your underwear music. It is hard for me to pinpoint who someone sounds like because I haven't always been that great at that. But I can tell you that it is the perfect album for rollerblading down Venice Beach, if you can still do that. This album is currently on heavy rotation on my iPod. It is definitely worth a ponder.

Blood Bank by Bon Iver

I haven't been this in love with a musician since Jack Johnson. I just learned this song on the guitar and am looking forward to playing it out eventually. Enjoy this beautiful video.
